About Ella Haber
A seasoned musician with a foundation in classical piano, trumpet, and vocals, Ella Haber embarked on her musical journey at the tender age of 5. A multifaceted artist, linguist, and activist, Ella’s profound influences and the art within her storytelling uplift her as a crucial voice and important leader within her communities.
Shocked by a hushed crowd reaction at her first public performance, Ella’s realisation her voice could halt and occupy an audience’s thoughts bleeds into all aspects of her life. Imbued with the poetic spirit of 60s luminaries like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, she discovered a love for the enchanting world of jazz during her high school years, delving into songwriting. This exploration led her down the rabbit hole of jazz and soul, from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone to contemporary icons like Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu.
Ella’s musical journey took a notable turn with the release of her debut single in 2019, marking her unmistakable presence. A trilingual multi-instrumentalist, Ella’s ability to communicate and forge connections through her music imbues her live performances with a spellbinding magic. The acclaim for her debut EP, ‘Clay’, resonated globally, with support pouring in from esteemed radio, such as BBC 1XTRA, MiSoul, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM, triple J, and FBi Radio.
The success of ‘Clay’ paved the way for a sold-out Sydney show and she embarked on a debut Australian East Coast headline tour in celebration of her record. Earning recognition from UK tastemakers, Ella was the sole representative from Sydney invited to perform at Gilles Peterson’s “We Out Here” festival in London. Her talent was further highlighted when Jamz Supernova (BBC 1XTRA/Future Bounce) selected her for an exclusive London headline showcase alongside Soul Has No Tempo label-mate Tiana Khasi.
Over the past few years, Ella’s mesmerising live performances have seen her share the stage with some of the most compelling international acts touring Australia, including Emma-Jean Thackeray, Kamaal Williams, Julien Dyne & Lord Echo (Aotearoa), and local talents Surprise Chef and Ngaiire. As part of Vivid Sydney’s 2023 program, Ella played the prestigious Sydney Opera House, supporting jazz phenom Alfa Mist and the improv wizards, Swooping. 2024 saw Ella open the night for 70’s British funk legends Cymande at Liberty Hall.
In 2024, Ella released her much-anticipated sophomore EP ‘Moments Between Dreams’. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Yianni Adams (Kyoshi) and mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Nick Herrera (Hiatus Kaiyote, 30/70), the 6-track record represents a maturation in songwriting and artistry for Ella Haber. All written and conceptualised on pianos in bedrooms, the record is a striking snapshot of Ella’s innermost reflections on life and love delivered with honest lyricism and rich, dream-like instrumentation.
Ella has just announced her hometown EP launch for ‘Moments Between Dreams’ on May 12 at The Vanguard, alongside the release of the ‘My Lover’ film clip directed by Tom Stephens. Ella Haber will be heading up the bill in full-band formation, delivering the mesmerising live show blending jazz, indie and future soul with show-stopping vocals she is well-known for, alongside local supports PA777IENCE, Setwun and The Between Dreamers.
