Known for her ‘mesmerizing and magnificent’ voice (Amplify the Noise), emotionally resonant songwriting and years of experience on the stage, Sydney-based songstress Ella Haber is kicking off the next phase of her career with the joyous, soul-drenched anthem of empowerment, ‘Walk On. Inspired by the tight grooves, bold horn lines and infectious joy of 60’s-70’s soul artists such as Curtis Mayfield, Al Green and Cymande, ‘Walk On’ is a reminder to cherish and protect your own integrity at all costs. Ella wrote the single with her longtime collaborator Yianni Adams (Kyoshi), and sent the demo off to Melbourne’s Frollen Music Library (Darvid Thor, Henry Jenkins, Hudson Whitlock - Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo, The Pro-Teens) to bring their soulful, analogue approach to the production.

The track opens with Ella’s commanding vocals front and center, declaring ‘I’m not waiting’ over the sultry, stripped back groove set up by the congas and tasty bass motif. The track takes its time, building a vibe that’s both laid-back and self-assured, before bursting into the triumphant chorus driven by classic soul instrumentation. Written in the days after Ella’s support slot for British 70’s funk/soul legends Cymande at their sold-out Liberty Hall (Sydney) show, ‘Walk On’ was inspired by the infectiously tight grooves, vibrant horn lines, and profound message of joy and resilience.

In what has been a difficult year full of change and loss, Walk On has been my guiding light. Since I wrote it in March, it has gently but persistently reminded me to always choose joy, and to cherish and protect my integrity at all costs. Whether as an artist, lover, friend or relative, we have to be fearless in walking away from relationships that do not serve us.
— Ella Haber

Earning recognition from UK tastemakers, Ella was the sole representative from Sydney invited to perform at Gilles Peterson’s inaugural 2019 UK ‘We Out Here’ festival. Her talent was further highlighted when Jamz Supernova (BBC 1XTRA/Future Bounce) selected her for an exclusive London headline showcase alongside Soul Has No Tempo label-mate Tiana Khasi. In the years since, Ella has become an in-demand support act for esteemed internationals, warming the stage for artists such as Cymande (2024 - Liberty Hall), Alfa Mist (2023 - Sydney Opera House, VIVID), Kamaal Williams, Emma-Jean Thackeray, Lord Echo as well as local legends Surprise Chef and Ngaiire. To celebrate the release of Walk On’, Ella is embarking on a double-headline tour in November with close friend and collaborator CINTA, another powerhouse vocalist and performer from Sydney’s soul scene, with shows in Sydney (pres. by Planet Trip), Thirroul (pres. by Holy Pavlova) and Melbourne.
